"My semester at TAU was a life-changing experience. As a result of my experience on the
OSP, I decided to spend my career working with college students who wish to study
abroad. It’s been ten years since I lived in Israel, but the memories are still as
fresh and powerful as they were when I had just returned."

Since the 2007-2008 academic year at Israeli universities will continue through the month of July as a result of a nation-wide faculty strike, it will not be possible to hold the Tel Aviv International Yiddish Summer Program this year. We are committed to this program which has attracted students from around the world and throughout Israel for the past two years, and we intend to offer it again during the summer of 2009, with language classes at four levels, literature classes, and a full cultural program. If you planned to study with us this year, we hope that you will return to us the following summer. We look forward to seeing you in Tel Aviv!

Yiddish

Students enroll in the intensive Yiddish program for 4 academic credits.

A vibrant summer program in Yiddish language and culture, launched in 2006, will once again take place at Tel Aviv University. Under the auspices of the Goldreich Family Institute for Yiddish Language, Literature, and Culture at Tel Aviv University, Beth Shalom Aleichem, and Yung Yidish, this four-week program offers intensive Yiddish instruction on campus at the beginners, intermediate, and advanced levels, as well as a rich afternoon program of lectures, tours, theatre, concerts, museums, films, and cultural events.

As students of the School for Overseas Students at Tel Aviv University, whose credentials are recognized by universities world-wide, participants will receive 80 hours of language instruction (four credits) with highly qualified and experienced teachers in small classes and will be housed in dormitories adjacent to the campus. Language instruction will be supplemented by lectures given by leading scholars in the fields of Yiddish language, literature, and culture.

The Summer School's cultural program will include music and poetry workshops, Yiddish theatre, meetings with Yiddish writers, events at the Yiddish Writer's hub Beth Leivick, Beth Shalom Aleichem and Yung Yidish Cultural Center, musical performances (including Klezmer), films, museums, and Yiddish walking tours. During leisure hours, Tel Aviv offers museums, cafes, Bauhaus architecture, the beach and the promenade, clubs at the old harbor and throughout the city, open air markets, summer street festivals, and the charm of old Jaffa with its artist colony.

A significant number of scholarships are available. To be considered for aid, please submit your completed Scholarship Form and program Registration Form. Scholarship requests should arrive at the Goldreich Institute by May 15, 2008.
