Academic Track
Summer Track I
Students enroll in two classes awarding 3 academic credits per course (6 total).
The two courses scheduled to be offered in the Summer of 2010 are the following:
- In the Shadow of the Palestinian-Israeli Conflict: Peace Processes, Mediations, Peace Keeping and Threats
Dr. Amos Nadan - (3 credits - 410-2)
This course deals predominantly with the stories of success and failure in achieving peace between Israel and its Middle Eastern neighbors and with the achievements and failures in maintaining the peace agreements obtained.
Towards the end of the semester, a brainstorming workshop will be held, dealing with the question of how to improve the state of affairs.
- Islam, Politics and Terror In the Middle East
Dr. M. Litvak – (3 credits – 411-2)
The course will examine the emergence of radical Islamic movements as a major political force in the modern Middle East, and will discuss their oppositionary role in various countries ranging from parliamentary activites to terrorism.
The course will also explore the various ideological trends which will include an examination of views of the crisis of Islam in the modern period; the desired type of Islamic government; the meaning of Jihad in the modern period; women’s rights and their integration in politics and many other relevant topics.
* Please note that the above list of courses is subject to change. If either one of the above courses is not offered due to scheduling conflict, a similar course will be offered.
Summer Combined Track
Students may choose to combine the Track 1 academic courses with the Track 2 Hebrew language course for a total of 9 credits.
